Job Summary

An Endoscopy RN specialist is an RN with expertise in gastroenterology. The RN is responsible for collaborating and coordinating gastro care with the nurse directors, the physicians, the OR and the Endoscopy Coordinator to ensure efficient, productive, quality clinical outcomes and a satisfactory patient and physician experience.  This will be accomplished by working as a clinician, educator & advocate.  The RN will also work to resolve patterns/problems, identify opportunities and systems to enhance outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Peri-Operative Services Director ensure daily logistical coordination of scheduled and add-on patients by establishing priorities and making ethically sound decisions focused on patient care.


Monitor staffing patterns, delays, schedule changes and overtime. Monitor performance and participate in performance improvement activities.  Data collection for research and using scientific findings to improve patient outcomes.


Assisting MD and Endo teams during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, both in the clinic and hospital setting, to assure and promote optimal patient outcomes. Provide direct patient care prn including after hour coverage with GI physician.   Respond to emergency situations by recognizing changes in the patient’s health status.  Round on patients in hospital and clinic setting.   Assist & manage follow-up care as requested by GI physician. 


Assure that complete, accurate, detailed documentation and labeling and ordering of specimens is done. Conduct chart audits

and complete data collection as needed to ensure documentation accuracy for quality outcomes and ASGE recognition.


Participate in continuing education and achieve/maintain SGNA certification. Participate as an active member of SGNA.  Serve

as a mentor and a resource provider for clinic and hospital staff.  Provide education to patients and significant others, as well

as staff.  Monitor competencies of GI specific staff both in house and in the PPM clinic setting.


Administer and evaluate pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment regimens in collaboration with the GI physician.

Monitor therapeutic treatment program.


Monitor and review equipment usage, malfunctions, repairs and complete annual report. Assure supply ordering and stock is

maintained by appropriate staff to meet demand.  Assure that staff is properly trained on new equipment.



Required experience: minimum of three years of Endoscopy experience
