  • Job Summary

    The primary responsibility of the Authorization Specialist is to promptly obtain authorization for the procedures and treatment prescribed by Center for Cancer Care providers. Once authorization has been obtained, the Specialist coordinates with the rest of the CCC team to appropriately schedule and confirm radiology and infusion appointments. In addition to authorizations and scheduling, the Specialist also oversees prescription management, ensuring patients’ prescriptions are filled in a timely manner and all externally-provided medications are ordered and delivered for treatment at the Center for Cancer Care.

                    This person will be expected to take initiative in organizing workflows in obtaining authorizations for each insurance provider and working with the rest of the CCC team to continue to improve the process by which authorizations are requested, obtained, and confirmed.

    Core Responsibilities

    Obtaining Prior-Authorizations for New and Established Patients

    - Diagnostic Imaging

    - Medication

    - Infused Chemotherapy

    - Oral Chemotherapy

    - Partnering with CCC Financial Specialist to coordinate available


     Scheduling and Confirmation of Scans

    - Coordinating with Patient Registration to appropriately schedule patient scans in accordance

       with the provider’s orders

    - Communicating with Imaging Department and vendors to address scheduling or

    authorization issues

                    - Actively communicate with Clinic Coordinator about any delays in scans resulting in 

                       authorization or scheduling issues.

    Prescription Management

    - Management and tracking of prescription refills

    - Management of Patient-own-medication ordering and tracking

               -“Free drug” provided by pharmaceutical companies
